Iowa Football Preview: Schedule Breakdown

It’s the final day of our Iowa Preview week! Today we will be breaking down the Hawkeyes schedule. We have ranked the toughest non-conference schedule and B1G schedules and Iowa was given the 7h ranked non-conference schedule and the hardest B1G schedule. I will be breaking down their schedule into three categories: Winnable games, Swing games and not a chance in hell games.

Winnable Games: Missouri St, W Michigan

As you can see right away, Iowa looks to have a pretty tough year as only two of their 12 games show up in the winnable category. But both of these games should result in a W for the home team and if they do not Iowa may be in much more trouble than some of you had imagined.

Swing Games: @Iowa St,  @Minnesota, @Purdue

Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes, all three of their swing games come on the road. A year ago Iowa State beat the home Hawkeyes and Iowa will look to return the favor in 2013. I don’t believe that Iowa will become bowl eligible in 2013, but if they hope to then they certainly must win at least two of these games.

Not a Chance in Hell Games: N Illinois, Michigan St, @Ohio St, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan, @Nebraska

And here is where our rankings finally come into play; the B1G schedulers did Iowa no favors, which resulted in them receiving the toughest conference slate in the entire B1G. The only top B1G team that Iowa will miss is Penn State, but they must host Michigan State, Northwestern, Michigan and Wisconsin before it’s all said and done. The Hawkeyes must travel to Ohio State and Nebraska as well. Oh yea remember everyone’s football Cinderella from a year ago? Well Iowa has to play Jordan Lynch and Northern Illinois to start the year off.

Prediction: (2-10, 0-8 B1G)
