Big Ten Basketball Power Poll: Week 9

It's Monday and that means it's time for our 9th installment of our weekly Big Ten blogosphere power rankings. That's right, we have assembled the biggest and brightest stars and minds (although after this week that's debatable) from around the Big Ten blogosphere once again to give you a look at what everyone is thinking about where their teams stand amongst their peers.

So, who exactly makes up this panel you ask? Well, good thing we've got your answer right here:

Andy Coppens - The B1G Time/ MadTown Badgers (Wisconsin) (@andycoppens)

Will Nahikian - The B1G Time MSU contributor (@TheB1GTimeMSU)

Robert A Lion Eye (Illinois) (@ALionEye)

Ross WB - Black Heart Gold Pants (Iowa) (@BHGP & @RossWB)

Brad Muckenthaler - Maize N Blue Nation (Michigan) (@MaizeBlueNation)

Ace Anbender - MGoBlog (Michigan) (@aceanbender)

Tom - The Daily Gopher (Minnesota) (@TheDailyGopher)

David McGee - CornNation (Nebraska) – (@CornNation)

Joe Dexter - The Buckeye Battle Cry (Ohio State) – (@joedexter)

This past week of action sure saw a lot change and it left only Wisconsin and Indiana as the remaining unbeatens in Big Ten play as the Badgers crushed the Illini on Saturday afternoon after the Hoosiers held on to beat the Gophers at home. Michigan went to Columbus and got stomped on by the Buckeyes and there were a host of other interesting matchups all week long. So, who took the top spot in our standings this week? Let's check it out shall we?

The B1G Time Big Ten Basketball Power Poll:

Place School (1st place votes) Points Last Week's Place
1 Indiana (8) 107 2
2 Michigan (1) 95 1
3 Minnesota 91 3
4 Ohio State 83 5
5 Michigan State 67 6
6 Wisconsin 65 7
7 Illinois 53 4
8 Iowa 46 8
9 Purdue 36 9
10 Northwestern 30 10
11 Nebraska 20 12
12 Penn State 9 11

3 Takeaways:

Apparently all it took for Michigan to lose it's top spot was to go on the road and lose to it's most bitter rival and for Indiana to barely hang on to a lead that was over 20 points at the half? It's an interesting reversal to say the least, but it's hard to argue with an offense and defense that rank in the top 10 in the country.

It's also interesting that it appears few are believers in the Badgers. Perhaps it's the lack of a big time out of conference win (Cal can hardly count) and the fact that people also have lost faith in the Illini who have lost three of their first four games and have struggled mightily on the road against unranked Purdue and Wisconsin. Don't worry, we'll find out quickly as tomorrow it's the battle of the unbeatens between the UW and IU.

Penn State is simply BAD… They are the first team in our poll's history to earn every single last place vote for the week – being winless in conference play will do that to you.
