2013 Preseason Top 25 Players: No. 17, Cody Latimer

The heavy hitters of the Big Ten schools have held the vast majority of spots in our Top 25 Players countdown, including Jordan Hall of Ohio State coming in at No. 18 when we last left you in our countdown. However, today we give you an up and coming team and a player that has already arrived, you just don't know it yet.

Before we get into only the 2nd non OSU, MSU, or Wisconsin player, let us remind you of what criteria we used to make our Top 25 list. We used things like importance to your team, overall skill at your position, records set, past performance, conference honors (coaches, media, our list too), and the good old-fashioned eye test.

If you don't know the name of our No. 17 player by now, you sure will by the time 2013 is over and so will the NFL, that's how talented he is.

No. 17: Cody Latimer (WR, Indiana)

2012 Stats/Honors: 12 games, 51 receptions, 805 yards, 6TD's; 2nd team All-Big Ten (coaches) HM B1G (media); co-B1G POW (vs. Iowa)

What makes him worthy: Latimer was the 2nd leading receiver in catches on one of the most dynamic offenses in the Big Ten in 2012, but lead the team in average per catch at 15.8, total yards, and tied for the team lead in TD's with 6. However, that doesn't tell the whole story for Latimer.

He did all of that as just a sophomore and under the leadership of Kevin Wilson – an offensive guru – he's only likely to grow. As the year went on he also began to assert himself as a physical wide receiver and not just one that could use his speed to burn you.

Latimer is 100% dangerous with his awesome size, speed, and leaping ability – you have to love a wide receiver that's 6'3" and 215lbs. and he's just continuing to learn how to use his body to his advantage. Heading into this season that's got to be a scary proposition for opposing teams.

Of course, it helped that he also was part of a pretty deep wide receiver Corp that featured Shane Wynn and Kofi Hughes last season and all three are back this season as well. Look for Latimer to the breakout guy from this group and by the time it's all said and done he may end up topping a few record lists in IU history.
